Escape Plan followed 2012's The Expendables 2, and was preceded by 2014's The Expendables 3.
When his most trusted operative, Shu Ren, is kidnapped and disappears inside the most elaborate prison ever built, Ray must track him down with the help of some of his former friends. Escape Plan 2 is essentially a tired, low-rent attempt to create a new franchise, albeit one now relegated to VOD. The original Escape Plan was the second of three films in recent years that brought 80s action icons Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger together. Ray Breslin manages an elite team of security specialists trained in the art of breaking people out of the worlds most impenetrable prisons. The original, which earned $137.3 million worldwide, was directed by Mikael Hafstrom, but it remains unclear if he will return to direct the action sequel.
Ted Fox, Mark Stewart, Barry Brooker and Stan Wertlieb will serve as executive produce.
